Fulham FC  has produced many great English footballers, including Johnny Haynes,  Bobby Robson and  Rodney Marsh, and has played a vital role in its local communities, through a charitable foundation  that  was established over 20 years ago.  The aims of the Fulham  Foundation  are empowering, educating and helping the most vulnerable members of local communities such as  Lambeth, Kingston, Hammersmith Fulham, and Surrey. Here is a look at some of the charitable work that the Fulham FC Foundation has undertaken over the past two decades. Working from venues such as Craven Cottage and the club’s training ground at Motspur Park, the programmes have encouraged  a great flowering of potential throughout the community from the very young to older residents. The Foundation also delivers a range of extracurricular activities for primary and secondary schools to spur educational and sporting ambitions.Social InclusionIMAGE SOURCE: FACEBOOKIN 2005, Fulham was one of  London’s first professional football clubs to create  a Down Syndrome football team.  In partnership with the Down Syndrome Association,  the club provides specialist coaching for all ends of the spectrum, and holiday camps for people of all ages and disabilities. The foundation works with a range of community partners, including the Mark Janes Golf Academy, Surbiton Tennis Club, Special Olympics,  and the  London Youth Games,  to name just a few. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); fanActivIMAGE SOURCE: TWITTERONE of the best examples of how the Foundation  works to un ite communities,  fanActiv  is emerging as a great way of bringing together London football fans  through friendly  rivalry and a healthy lifestyle.  fanActiv was launched in December 2015, in partnership with the National Health Service, the Community Sports Trust of  Brentford Football Club, and Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. Participants in the tournament  (football fans aged 35+) compete against rival fans in a range of tough physical challenges.Mental HealthONE in four people experience mental health issues, and the Fulham Foundation, driven by the belief that  physical exercise improves a persons wellbeing, devotes much  time harnessing the power of football in the battle against mental illness.  The Foundation is a partner in  the  United Kingston  project, which offers physical training and creates employment opportunities for  Kingston residents with mental health issues. The project was launched in  partnership  with The Royal Borough of Kingston, Kingston NHS CCG, Mind in Kingston, Balance CIC Kingston and Comfort Care Services. It costs just £2 to enter, and there is a large cash prize weekly, with additional prizes up for grabs once a month. All proceeds from the lottery go towards the Foundation and the club’s supported charities.
