Highlight your Value through Personal Branding in your Cover Letter
Highlight your Value through Personal Branding in your Cover Letter Highlight your Value through Personal Branding in your Cover Letter A key understanding you must first gain about titel letters (and resumes in general) is that they are not about you, but about the employer. A quality cover letter will brand you in a way that presents you as a candidate that exactly matches what an employer is looking for. The first step to standing out is to immediately bestattungs the attention of the hiring manager, and this requires a powerful opening paragraph. Consider foregoing the standard approach of simply listing your value to a company in a rote, and boring way and use a narrative hook so that you are using your own voice to demonstrate your knowledge and interest in a company. After pulling the reader in with your introduction, the main body of your cover letter should focus on areas of expertise, professional accomplishments, experiences, and other outstanding qualifications that are already on your resume. Keep the list of entries to two or three so that you can discuss the nuance of each entry and how it applies to the job. Show off your work by sharing your website and your online or offline portfolio so that employers can investigate you on their own and see real results of your efforts.Once youve established and presented your personal brand, close with language as strong as that from your opening paragraph. Strong, in this context, means to avoid using phrases such as I think and I believe. Set a firm date to follow up with the employer and make sure the hiring manager knows when to expect your next communication. Also, list your professional social media sites so that they can discover your interaction style and expertise for themselves. Following this format ensures that your cover letter, supported by a strong resume, will remain focused, succinct, and fully connect your unique personal brand to what the employer requires.Master the art of closing deals and making placements. How Personnel Management Differs From Human Resources
How Personnel Management Differs From Human ResourcesHow Personnel Management Differs From Human ResourcesPersonnel management refers to the functions that many employers refer to as Human Resources. These are the functions that the menschenwrdig resources staff perform relative to the organizations employees. These functions include recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, new employee orientation, training, and performance appraisal systems. Personnel management also includes developing and implementing policies and processes to create an orderly, employee-supportive work environment. It is an older term that is falling into disuse in modern organizations. The Personnel Department Traditionally, the personnel department took care of things related to employment, but on a rather low level. Tasks consisted of filling out formsand checking off boxes. Many people mucksmuschenstill think of this department this way, even though most companies no longer have personnel departmen ts and instead have human resources departments.Companies also talk about HR management rather than personnel management today. While becoming extinct, personnel management is a term that is still used in many government agencies, and primarily in the nonprofit sector, to describe functions that deal with theemployment of people within an organization. Concerning functionality, a personnel department handles the more transactional and administrative aspects of the HR management team. However, there are those that still use the term to refer to the whole gamut of HR responsibilities and services. To understand the difference between personnel management and HR management, consider the following Personnel Management Duties Hiring across many organizations that are done by a single person or group of people. Recruiters look at checkbox lists and match candidates resumes to that list.Compensation and benefits departmentsthat create strict rules around pay grades and increases. For i nstance, enforcing a limit on annual increases of no more than 10 percent and preventing promotions of more than one salary grade. The important part is to create consistency.New employee orientation, which consists of helping employees fill out their benefits paperwork, showing them where the break room is, and handing out a copy of the employee handbook. The focus is on getting the paperwork adequately completed and filed away. Human Resources Management Duties Hiringthat is done by specialists who have a deep understanding of the needs of the organization. They partner with the hiring manager to find people who not only have the skills necessary to do the job but fit the culture of the organization. They implementrecruiting and hiring process steps to ensure great hires.Compensation and benefits departments, which recognize the need to not only have fairness and consistency across the company but understand the need to meet individual employees needs. Their primary point of f ocus is always, what is best for the geschftlicher umgang? This may mean that an employee with a specialized skill set gets a new title and pay grade so that theircompensation will allow them to feel valuedso they dont leave to work for a competitor. While pay is critical, many employees consider a benefitspackage as the reason to join or leave a company. Its not just health insurance that great employees want, its flexible schedules, perks, and company culture. New employee orientation, which consists of orienting the employee to the company. While paperwork is still important - and everyone wants their health insurance paperwork filled out correctly - the HR department focuses on setting up the employee for success. New employee orientation might even include a formal mentoring program. Or, it might involve opportunities for a meet-and-greet so the new employees get to know people they will be working with as well as those in different departments. What Do You Want for Your Bu siness? Small companies often prefer to save money by having an employee take on HR responsibilities, even if this is not their background. Big companies, on the other hand, are prone to outsource HR duties to companies or consultants well-versed in the field. Think long and hard about the amount of money you invest in your employees and ask yourself if you want to cut corners in how employees are treated and managed. Focusing on the human side of your business can create a stronger company with higher morale and lower turnover. Ultimately, this saves money and increases productivity.

Be less boring Make your resume more like a meme
Be less boring Make your resume more like a memeBe less boring Make your resume more like a memeIn 2016, Google Trends - which tracks the popularity of search terms - revealed a somewhat startling statistic. According to internet searches for that year, for the first time in recorded history, memes were sought more often than Jesus Christ (then again, Gizmodo reported that come Christmas or Easter, it was all Jesus all the time). So why do we love memes so much? Lets take a step back and explain the origin story of those images with just the right words first.A short history of memesIn 1976, author/activist/atheist Richard Dawkins wrote a book called The Selfish Gene which took on a lot of weighty topics including genes and to a lesser degree, cultures effect on all of us. He also just so happened to introduce the idea of memes, which he describes as a sort of measure of cultural influence. In modern internet culture, fruchtwein of us recognize memes as very specific image play anyth ing from pop culture icons to presidential hair mishaps paired with a few very carefully chose words that either sum up or break down a concept. And they almost always elicit a gasp, a laugh or a nod of recognition. So, how can you add some meme inspired magic to your own boring resume?Make it snappyWhether or not youre the best at what you do doesnt really matter if no one takes the time to read your resume. One of the reasons memes work is the fact that they make a statement in as few words as possible. Sure you want to list everything that sets you out from the crowd, but try doing it in as few words as possible. And then cut it down some more. Use powerful words that convey the large scope of what you are capable of instead of using many sentences to say the same thing.Add a clever visualIn the age of video letters of introduction, adding a point of interest might just capture a hiring managers attention before they shift to the next resume. Dont go for the shock factor, but inst ead try to add a photo or element that makes someone want to see or read more.If youve literally reached new heights by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, found yourself swimming with sharks, or spent time on a safari, consider adding it as a p.s. to your resume. Make sure to caption the photo in a way that reminds the headhunter or interviewee that you understand the importance of the potential job, but that youre also cool in a crisis. This might not work for every job or job seeker, but could be the right spice for an otherwise boring CV.Reference pop cultureApplying for a job managing a ski resort? Feel free to include a title like Winter is coming, before explaining why youd be great for the gig. Again, try to be circumspect about how much humor or visuals you add, but if the application mentions that they like candidates with unique personalities, you have free reign to show off your own.Make it timely (but avoid the political)If everyone is talking about a specific world event, feel f ree to reference it in your cover letter or even resume - if it can potentially help move your overall job search in the right direction. If, however, everyone is griping about a scary world event or questionable world leader, skip it.Its a thin line between witty and inappropriate. While wit or pop culture prowess can count for a lot in some careers, you never want to be the person who brings up controversial topics.Share and share againWhile you never want to flood someones inbox with too much follow up, you do want to make sure that your resume is seen. If you dont hear back after sending out your resume, feel free to send a follow-up response. Keep it short, keep it friendly and then move on to the next opportunity.

How to Develop Strong Relationships with Candidates and Clients - Spark Hire
How to Develop Strong Relationships with Candidates and Clients - Spark HireIn the recruiting business, it is important not only to provide top talent to ur clients, but also to build strong relationships with clients and candidates. When we have built those solid relationships, we have the greater chance of understanding what both our clients and candidates need throughout the interviewing and hiring process. Having this information allows us to provide enormous value to all parties by ensuring the right placement is made. There are 4 key ways to build and foster those strong relationships with clients and candidates1. ListenThe most important thing that we must do as recruiters is to listen and be attentive to what our clients and candidates are telling us. Yes, we must ask questions in order to find out what type of candidates to search for or if a certain candidate has the skills needed for the position. However, after asking each question, we must stop talking for a moment and ca refully listen to our clients and candidates. When we listen carefully, we are sure to better understand each persons needs. Also, your candidates and clients will be able to tell through your actions how well you listened once the interviewing process begins.Personally, I would prefer to do business with someone who I know will listen and understand my needs. It is no different with anyone else.2. ShareAs recruiters, we ask a lot of information from both our clients and candidates. It is only fair that we allow some information about ourselves into conversations. For example, if it is mentioned that a client or candidate has a dog, I typically will ask questions about the dog and mention that I also have a dog.Whenever you can find some common interest between yourself and someone else, it can quickly develop a common bond that you may not have had previously. The key thing to remember here is NOT to be afraid to share some information about you.3. CommunicateWho thinks kindly of som eone who doesnt communicate clearly or often? I certainly do not and I definitely would not think kindly of someone who ignored my phone calls or schmelzglass.I know how busy it can get for recruiters I have been there However, the worst mistake you can make is to NOT communicate clearly and often with your candidates and clients. Any relationship that you have built and maintained can quickly deteriorate if you are ignoring phone calls or emails.Even if you do not have the immediate time or information to provide regarding a question, reply back via email or make a quick phone call to let your candidate or client know that you have received their message and will follow up with information tomorrow. Trust me the simple acknowledgement that you received their message makes a HUGE difference here in trust and reliability.4. Use of VideoSometimes, as recruiters, it can be difficult for us to schedule face-to-face time with our clients and candidates. I know that in my past experience, it was not always easy to travel to the location of each of my clients and candidates. Distance, time-zone differences, flight costs, etc., can all make it difficult to us to foster that important face-to-face interaction that helps to further build strong relationships.A remedy to this problem is the increasing use of video interviews that we are seeing mora of in the industry. If you havent tried video interviewing to speak with candidates and connect candidates and clients, then you are missing an extremely beneficial tool in todays recruiting industry. When it is impossible to physically meet with your clients and candidates, video can provide much more valuable interaction than a simple phone call. What are some other tips you have found helpful when building strong relationships with your clients or candidates? Please share your successes and suggestions in the comments below.Image gstockstudio/BigStock.com
